I absolutely loved the back and forth banter between characters. I loved how relatable this story was and how it can resonate with anyone experiencing infertility. I am not personally effected by infertility, to my knowledge, but it’s always on my mind especially as I get older. I feel like I would be following in Kristen’s shoes in that I would hate to ever be with someone who expects to have their own biological children and then wind up not being able to and constantly feeling like they are settling for you. This can cause quite the trauma and make you feel worse for not being able to carry children on your own. The ending had me sobbing and feeling all the feels. I wasn’t planning on crying but here we are and I loved the entire story.

leaned too far into the “not like other girls” trope,
i really felt it was SO unnecessary that brandon ended up dying that just ripped my heart out for no reason and i kinda hated it

This book felt misogynist and also had some distasteful offhand comments that turned me off. I also felt like, in the year 2019, why was a book being published that was SO condemning of all things feminine? I was confused about the inclusion of Tyler when it seemed a non-issue, and for all the “I’m not a cheater” talk there was definitely content that veered onto emotional affair territory. After half of the book I felt like I knew where 90% of the plot was going, almost all the tension was gone, and the relationships and humor felt geared towards a high schooler’s understanding of romance and jokes. Not for me.

OKAY LOOK, if you’re considering Abby Jimenez and this is the first book you’re picking up? Don’t let it be!! Hear me out though:

EVERY OTHER ABBY JIMENEZ BOOK HAS BEEN A 5 star [⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️] READ FOR ME❗️(with the exception of The Happily Ever After Playlist for reasons you can read in my review, and even that was 4 stars). This book just was not it. I almost DNF-ed at several different points-hence the rating. The main characters reasons for staying away from each other/the central conflict started to feel so repetitive…to the point that this less-than-400-page book started to feel like a never-ending 600-pager. Also, we get it🙄Kristen is the elusive Cool Girl(TM) from the Gone Girl monologue 💀I would’ve loved for everyone to stop bringing it up every few pages.

Her writing really salvaged the book and the sweet, poignant, and impactful moments that were present throughout the book pushed this into 3 star territory—the last ~10% of this book including the scene I won’t mention bc spoilers? Can’t lie, I cried. But still, I wouldn’t recommend this being your introduction to Abby Jimenez’s writing.

The Part of Your World universe is right there! This was Abby’s first release (so I suppose it was good for what it was), but it wasn’t until I got to the 3rd book in this series (Life’s Too Short) that I saw the writing style and content that kindled so many reader’s adoration of her as an author. The Part of Your World Series that came after was ✨sensational✨and that’s where I recommend starting.
