This is the quickest I've read a book in a long while. The story is amazing. The characters are well developed. Jonathan Stroud is definitely one of my top 5 favorite authors. I've never met one of his books I did not enjoy.

Loved this book....from cover to cover. It was like Harry Potter meets Ghostbusters meets Neil Gaiman. The fight scenes with the various entities and the equipment Lucy, George and Lockwood use to kill the spirits (or is it rekill since technically they are already dead? or is it send them back to where they came from?) kept me entertained and intrigued.
Mr. Stroud is a creative and outstanding writer. The world and characters he created were real and fascinating. Can't wait to start the second book in this series!

This was a fun YA ghost adventure and I will be reading the others in the series. Can something be dark and lighthearted at the same time?

3.75 out of 5 stars.
This book was like a mixture of Nancy Drew 2007 movie (because I saw some similarities between the plots) and Flavia De Luce series.
I just wish I'd have read this when I was much younger, because I'm certain I'd have adored this. But overall I had so much fun with it.

I might would fear for my life if I wanted to try to give The Screaming Staircase fewer than five stars, as I've come to know it as Garce's... babygirl, or something. Well enough for me, though, this book absolutely deserves it. The writing style is fitting for its younger intended audience, but never does it feel diminished in quality because of it; it simply just makes it an easier read. I enjoyed the atmosphere that was constantly set upon each scene. The spookiness was done perfectly, some of the scenes downright bone-chilling. The characters had depth and were, just the same, lovable. This book has certainly called me to try and finish the show, and I certainly try to get around to the sequel as soon as I can.
