Set in Korea in 1758, this historical fiction follows Hyeon, the illegitimate daughter of a judgemental father who has studied hard and earned her position as a palace nurse. But Hyeon’s world changes quickly when four women are murdered in a single night and her mentor becomes the prime suspect. In her quest for justice, Hyeon joins forces with Eojin, a young police inspector, as they rush to solve the case before her mentor is punished for the crime.
This was a fascinating book! The culture and time period were all new to me and I found it so interesting to read about the customs of this time and place. It’s obvious that the author has done her research and she has created such a rich world to experience through the eyes of Hyeon. At times, I mixed up some of the side characters she and Eojin encountered through their investigation but overall I found the mystery compelling. And wow, did the story get intense in the last couple of chapters! I’ve already added some of June Hur’s backlist to my TBR and she has a new book coming out soon that I plan to read too!
