Part coming-of-age, part romance, and all feminine power, Warrior of the Wild follows Rasmira through the most difficult challenge of her life so far. Betrayed and exiled, she must survive the deadly wilderness and complete her mattugr—a nigh impossible personal trail—in order to regain her honour and prove herself worthy in the eyes of her father and her village. Fast-paced and adventurous, it features a strong cast of core-characters, as well as themes of integrity, resilience, self-discovery, and found family.
This is one of my all time favourite books: easily in my top five, and a strong contender for top three. It’s rare that I read a book and instantly want to turn back to the start and read it again, but that’s exactly what I’ve been tempted to do each time I’ve finished this—first in 2020, and now on this re-read in 2024. Whilst I have resisted the temptation, I don’t think I’ll be waiting quite as long as last time before the next re-read.
