This was the February pick for my in-person book club.
In this contemporary romance, we meet Evvie who is recently widowed and living in a small town on the shores of Maine. Everyone in town, including her best friend, Andy, tries to support her in her grief, not knowing that she may not be feeling the way they assume she is. Soon, Andy’s friend Dean, an MLB pitcher who had to leave the league due to a serious case of the “yips” moves in to rent the apartment attached to Evvie’s house. Dean and Evvie make a rule that he won’t ask about her late husband and she won’t ask about baseball. But what are rules for if not to be broken?
I like the premise of this book and it touches on some important themes. However, I found the female main character to be a bit annoying at times. I enjoyed the last few chapters of the book and appreciated the growth in both characters, but this wasn’t a memorable read for me.
