This book is one of The Overbooked Society’s February picks and my first ever Colleen Hoover read! I’ve heard so much about her books so I was really excited to dive in!

The story follows Kenna and Ledger. Kenna, a mother recently released from prison returns to the town where she made the biggest mistake of her life to try to reconnect with her four year old daughter. Meanwhile, Ledger is the only person who hasn’t shut her out completely, but will the most important people in Ledger’s life accept his growing romance with Kenna?

Now I understand why so many people love Colleen Hoover’s books! I loved the dual perspectives and how real and authentic the emotions and actions of the characters felt. I love how character focused the story is and I fell in love with both of them. I think the author does a great job of handling the heavy theme of grief and of illustrating how humans can be so quick to make assumptions or judgments of others, especially when done through the lens of grief. I definitely got emotional a few times reading this one!

“It proves that time, distance, and devastation allow people enough opportunity to craft villains out of people they don’t even know.”
