Being eighteen is hard enough, Bondi has to deal with the perils of being quarter-dragon in a speciest town. With nothing but a bag of essentials and the urge to just get away, he's flung into a world that's way darker than he thought.
I was really interested with this book, and for the first third or so, had so much fun with it. The narrating voice used for Bondi was messy - and hilarious all the same. I was really excited for the coming of age story, and was disappointed at it being another 'chosen one' story. Don't get me wrong, I love a good chosen one, and honestly Bondi being the chosen one would be interesting. However, what interest I had in him growing as a person was overshadowed by his lack of participating in actually growing.
For the most part, Bondi seems to be in scenarios, rather than experiencing them. He's put into situations he can barely defend himself against, and isn't given enough time to actually process them before being thrust into another. At first it shows him being naive and new to the workings of the world, needing to rely on new acquaintances and furthering relationships. However, this continues on and on again - and with the self deprecation and messy, disorganized thoughts, it just didn't seal the 'growth' for me. Bondi's thoughts being the narration also makes things very confusing, as I don't really know which are his opinions and which are fact, as the italicized stuff are not consistent all throughout.
I have my own opinions on the whole 'revolution' thing but I digress. 3.25/5
Big thanks to the publisher for providing me this ARC via NetGalley. This does not in any shape or form influence my review on this book.
