I first heard about Kate Bowler while listening to the ๐๐ข๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ช๐ฆ๐ณ podcast with Gretchen Rubin. The podcast hosts interviewed her about her first book and this book around the time that it came out. I was instantly attracted to her honesty around hard topics.
Itโs always hard to rate memoirs so I wonโt go into much detail regarding my rating.
As someone living with a chronic illness who went through a double lung transplant and several complications afterward, I often felt that Bowler was articulating things that I havenโt been able to yet. While I donโt have cancer, I could relate to many of the thoughts and emotions she expressed that are often hard to discuss with people who donโt live with a chronic medical condition. Her openness, honesty, and humour are refreshing.
