My summary: After testifying against her own father, who has committed egregious fraud and embezzled billions of dollars from his victims, Charlotte flees life as she knows it in Manhattan and starts over, hoping to remain unknown. A year later, Simon is at a bachelor party in NOLA when the drunk groom decides he wants a tattoo, and Simon is immediately drawn to Lee (Charlie), one of the tattoo artists there. Charlie is warn off by her colleague and FWB, Connor, that she shouldn’t get tangled up with Simon, a councilman and congress hopeful, since she’s clearly on the run from something and his political aspirations put him in the spotlight and under scrutiny. Despite the warning, Charlie is just as drawn to Simon. As Simon and Charlie become more serious, Charlie realizes she has to stop running and deal with her past before it catches up to her and drags Simon down—even though it might be too late for that.
My thoughts: NOLA has my heart, so I already loved it off the bat. I enjoyed the narrator for Charlotte/Lee/Charlie. I didn’t quite think the narrator for Simon fit his character that well but he was overall fine. I thought I’ve just been in an audiobook slump, but, no, I think the other audiobooks I’ve been forcing myself through are just trash. This one got me back into blowing through almost an entire audiobook in a single work day. The spice in this one is really low compared to most of Meghan March’s other books. It also wrapped up pretty nicely for being the first book in a series, as hers normally leave you on a big cliffhanger until the next book. I’d like to continue the series as audiobooks but I can’t find it on Libby or Hoopla and it’s not included in Spotify premium, so I may to to continue it through Kindle which isn’t nearly as exciting for me, so that’s a bummer.
