Releasing Maladek by Victoria Aveline

4.0

4 Stars

Though half the length of a typical Clecanian story, Aveline does not short the reader on a plausible romantic progression between Katie and Maladek (“bad” guy turned good from Using Fejo).

Maladek was caught and enslaved by a despicable alien race, and his chances of escape are markedly improved when the ship Katie is on is attacked and forced to crash. As she tries to find her friends to rescue, she realizes Maladek is her only possible hope to get off the horrid planet they’re stuck on.

This had good dangerous suspense regarding the rescue operation, and there was plenty of down time for these two to get nicely acquainted and of course, fall in love. Aveline consistently develops her protagonists with a weighty varied background and introduces a new alien race in Maladek who has his own special features and talents.

Overall, there's some good feels and some nice smexy, not shorting the reader on why two people fit just right to lock in that covetous mate bond!
