4.0

I used to read a lot of Nora Roberts back in the day before I got distracted by her In Death series and I wasn’t disappointed by Identity. What I really enjoyed about this one was that it was much more of a thriller than a romance.

I liked the first part as we got to know Morgan and her daily life with her roommate and closest friend Nina. We got to learn about her hopes and dreams and I even got excited when I thought she had the start of a relationship. Following Nina’s untimely death, Morgan goes home to Vermont to pick up the broken pieces of her life. Things did slow down quite a bit here for me as we got used to Morgan’s new routine and now the fear that a serial killer was after her. Some scenes felt much too repeated as routine and it did take some of my enjoyment away.

Her slow but budding romance with Miles was another thing I liked. I thought they were both compatible in a Yin and Yang sort of way and I enjoyed watching the growth and learning about both their families.

Luke/Gavin was such a disturbing man and this was portrayed quite well. I found myself disgusted during his chapters but I kept reading because I had to know what happened next.

Aside from some pacing in the second part, I quite liked the book as a whole. It reminded of The Liar which is one of my favorites by Nora Roberts as that one also dealt with loss as well building your life back together step by step.
A huge thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for a copy the book!
