Gemma may be the daughter of one of the richest men on the planet but she is a simple woman at heart. She wants to live quietly, with no fuss and bake. She gained some fame winning a baking competition but nothing that would warrant her being kidnapped! But Gemma is a bit of a warrior, having been trained by her childhood bodyguards and manages to make her escape. But she has lost some of her memories and is found in the river by Boone and Atlas.
Boone loves the solitude of his cabin. Just him, his dog Atlas and the quiet. But fate has brought Gemma to him as a safe harbour and he'll do everything he can to keep her safe. Gemma and Boone have some intense chemistry but better than that they're becoming a great partnership. Gemma doesn't b*&ch and moan, she gets on with what needs done and bakes to get rid of the stress.
Gemma has justified trust issues and Boone has some PTSD issues. But with the help of a few friendly faces we've met before they're making their way across country. But it would seem someone is determined to use Gemma for skills from her former corporate life.
Fast paced with some great action scenes. There are a few new faces we meet including an elderly Veterinarian and Shep, a former teammate of Boone, who really gets thrown into the action when his own sanctuary is attacked.
I'd love to have seen more of the strained relationship between Gemma and her parents over her career but it's not really addressed in the book, just mentioned by Gemma. But otherwise their relationship seems just fine.
TW: Drugged/Abduction/PTSD/Torture
