Dune by Frank Herbert

5.0

This book is no doubt a classic for a reason, and I’m satisfied to finally have read it after putting it off too long. I’ve not gone deep into many fantasy epics (which this clearly is as much sci fi), so I did have early trouble with the fast paced mentioning of lore and background in such a way that I assumed I had simply missed their explanations rather than Herbert just omitting any deep dives. But pushing through those early points of confusion proved well worth it and the themes of questioning religion, environmental allegories, and power struggles all made this a thoughtful and well valued read. The finger prints of the story are so evident in tons of sci fi media in the tears to come, so that was neat to see as well.

And now I can stop putting off watching the movies!
