After the joy ride of the first book in this series, I couldn’t wait to pick up the second!

Violet has survived her first year at Basgiath War College, but she knows the second year will push her even harder than the first if that’s possible. Add to that, the new vice commandant who is determined to break her and the massive secret she’s hiding from everyone, including her friends, about the college leadership, and Violet will be lucky to see her third year.

Another fun ride to follow the first! I don’t think the pacing of this book was quite as good as the first, and some of the world-building could be a bit confusing at times, but neither of those complaints affected my enjoyment too much. I enjoyed watching Violet grow in her relationship with herself, her friends, and Xaden. It was fun to learn more about the world and especially more about the dragons in this book. I’m just so happy that a fantasy book this big centres on a female heroine with a disability. Representation matters and I’m so glad this series is getting so much attention! And, of course, I can’t wait for the next fun adventure in number three!
