The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater

5 Stars Again! - Reread 2/29/24

There’s just something about Stiefvater's writing when it comes to this series specifically. It’s definitely in the sublime word choice that evokes a feel of otherworldliness and allows a deeper look into the psyches of her characters.

Often and consistently, a simple sentence elicits a painful truth, a funny realization, a catch in your throat, a thump in your heart - keeping my attention for the next wonderful insight.

It doesn’t hurt one bit that Will Patton’s narration expertly brings these gut reactions to the fore, elevating the words and further immersing you in the story.

On my 3rd go around with this series, it still packs a surprising and wonderfully wondrous punch!

"I wish you could be kissed, Jane," he said. "Because I would beg just one off you... and then we'd never say anything about it again."

Without any hesitation, she stretched her arms around his neck... He leaned toward her - her heart spun again - and pressed his cheek against hers. His lips didn't touch her skin, but she felt his breath, hot and uneven, on her face. His fingers splayed on either side of her spine. Her lips were so close to his jaw that she felt his hint of stubble at the end of them. It was mint and memories and the past and the future and she felt as if she'd done this before and already she longed to do it again...

He pulled away. He said, "And now we never speak of it again."
