Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future by Ashlee Vance
4.0
This is one of those books that most people should get around to reading for a variety of reasons-- whether you're in tech/business, are interested in the specific industries Musk is dedicated to upending, or just want to read one of the classic American stories of success in the face of seemingly impossible odds.
I appreciate Vance's stance in this book that she gained Musk's trust enough to get many interviews with him but never gave over any sort of editorial control to him, as there are plenty of negatives to the 'Musk story' that are just as important to his successes. Musk is also the master of spin/PR, so that makes Vance's ability to get Musk's blessing to take the approach she did impressive.
In any event, whether you revere the good or revile the bad about Musk and his approach and personality (which, the more you read about the modern day geniuses and game-changers like Musk, Jobs, and the like, the more you realize there tends to be just as much darkness as light in their lives), I'm sure most people will find some interesting and invaluable lessons for your own life and own pursuits.
