"It was hard to be frightened of the unknown when the unknown kept chickens."
Two words encompass all that is so very good about this, and which, without spoiling the story, will hopefully intrigue another to pick it up.
Demon. Chicken.
Ursula Vernon knows how to write an excellent found family story, with interesting, flawed, and relatable characters. In every story of hers that I have read, she has crafted a tale with the perfect balance of humour and horror, a dash of romance, and the most unique companions I've ever had the fortune of reading.
Vernon writing as T Kingfisher is quickly becoming one of my favourite authors. I look forward to collecting more of her works, hopefully in hardback, to enjoy for years to come.
