This story is told from the dual perspectives of Penny and Sam. Penny has just arrived in Austin, Texas to attend college and Sam, whose life is a bit of a mess, works at the local coffee shop. Their second meeting is incredibly awkward but they start connecting via text to help each other get through their freshman projects and whatever else life throws at them.

While this book isn’t perfect and some bits were not very believable, I still really enjoyed it. I appreciated the fact that these were two flawed characters with messy lives, trying to figure things out and finding support in each other. Some of the more serious topics weren’t explored in a lot of depth but I was okay with that. Overall, it was an enjoyable, quick read.
