Rowan had just began her first job out of college when The Dying struck. 4 years later she is surviving within the school and has scrounged up enough food to survive. With a stray dog for company she doesn't feel totally alone. But when she encounters a handsome stranger, she can't begin to imagine the problems she's walking into.
James AKA Jamil has set himself on the path of subterfuge to get close to the lonely human. She is pretty enough but he's more fascinated by how she has survived. But how will she react when she realises that he is one of the dreaded Djinn who caused her to live this life of isolation?
Twists and turns abound and James tells lie upon lie to get Rowan to trust him. As the lies begin to unravel Rowan rightly kicks him to the curb but will her new neighbours, a mix of Djinn and human help her see how James has changed or will she continue to hate him for the devastation his people wrought?
Talk about a morally grey hero! Rowan was such a strong, intelligent and creative FMC. Sure she was a tad bit naïve but she was barely adulting when the world was devastated. James does grow eventually, although it takes him a while to own up to his part in events
