All the points for an intriguing set up where technology has advanced leaps and bounds to make a living breathing sentient “spaceship” and the lucky few genetically unique enough to bond with said ship are set to embark on a 10 year space exploration for the sake of science and research.

Where this failed for me is when the 7 unique pairs meet up for a week of commiseration halfway through their expedition. Lots happen and as with some of these short stories, the lack of a solid conclusion made for a disjointed, dissatisfying ending that just seemed to be so much drama for drama’s sake. I’d much rather they had never met up at all as my reader alter ego needs something more concrete.
