The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
5.0
I definitely have a backlog of classics that I just never got around to reading earlier, mostly because I was usually not very excited to read outside of required school reading growing up-- and Hitchhiker's Guide was at the top of the list. It took only 5 minutes into picking this up to realize why it was so highly regarded by so many people and make me feel like a fool for waiting this long. I often find British humor on TV/movies to be hit or miss for my tastes, but the funny was absolutely dripping out of this book and kept me wanting more. And unbeknownst to me, the kindle version of the book I was reading was one that came out after the movie was made-- so when I saw the book was over and the remaining 32% I was promised by my kindle were actually afterwords and interviews, I was immediately disappointed. Guess I'll be picking up the next books in the series soon! (Sidenote-- the afterward of how the movie finally ended up getting made after Adams trying for so long, and sadly not living long enough to see it happen for himself, was interesting as well).
