Getting through the first 100 pages is a hard slog. They're boring with little action and too much descriptive filler. The second 100 pages are a bit more interesting and the main character, Bilbo, starts developing some fortitude. I only really got interested during the last 80 pages when the characters reached their destination. It just didn't live up to its cultural status as an iconic tale of adventure.
