Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
5.0
Six Of Crows is absolutely phenomenal. It is a bit more mature than the previous grishaverse novels but fans can still find comfort in the familiar world. From the start, I was hooked. There was truly never a dull moment. The first chapter sets the scene and provides necessary information but still manages to be just as action-packed and intriguing as the rest of the book which is what makes Six Of Crows so easy to get into.
Six Of Crows follows six teenage criminals on a heist to kidnap a scientist from Fjerda’s impenetrable Ice Court. Each one narrates throughout the book which allows for more insight into the characters. Bardugo expertly crafts each character. They were unique with their own background and their own interests, but all were weaved together with a common thread - they were all just trying to survive. This made the characters feel so much more real and I had such an easier time sympathizing with them. They weren’t perfect nor were they your typical heroines, but they were loveable nonetheless.
The plot can be a bit confusing at times. you’re left in the dark often, but I think that’s what made the story so addicting. With all the surprises, I always had a reason to keep reading. Attempting to guess the next reveal became a sort of game. I think the story would have lost some of its excitement had the reader always been informed of everything. With so many twists and turns, the ending was no different. That cliffhanger perfectly sets up the next book and I’m dying to see what happens next!
