The Boyfriend Candidate by Ashley Winstead

3.5

As per the blurb, this is a fake dating trope when a gubernatorial candidate is caught in a compromising situation and in order to save his reputation, he needs the pretty stranger he was about to have a one night stand with pretend to be his girlfriend.

Suffice it to say, all the points go towards Logan Arthur! He’s an up and coming politico running for Texas governor, and he’s a sexy brash foul mouthed passionate holds no barred filled to the brim deliciously masculine kind of guy. He’s devoted to his causes and is not afraid to call out the truth whether you want it or not. However, he’s young with a past amorous reputation, and he wants to be taken seriously.

Hence, Alexis reluctantly agrees to play out the farce and luckily, they have similar views. Nevertheless, she’s the complete opposite of Logan - afraid to rock the boat, afraid to put her needs and wants first, afraid to do something out of her comfort zone. Although she’s completely relatable in real life, Alexis on paper just didn’t grab me as much despite the huge amount of growth that happens as she finds her voice and what she’s passionate about (which also includes Logan).

Just know that this is not surprisingly heavy on politics and entrenched with hidden feelings and no communication because it’s all fake right?? Right. Toss in a pushy sister and another suitor who doesn’t deserve to be in the middle of such a situation, and you also know this set up is just waiting for the big implosion. Ordinarily, this kind of romance is not typically my cuppa, but my bestie Meags knew I would fall hard regarding Logan, and she wasn’t wrong. He’s one dream candidate and again, pretty much all the points go to him!
