My summary: Persephone is one of the daughters of the Greek god Demeter. She’s approaching her 25th birthday with plans to leave Olympus for good. Zeus has been interested in Persephone and she is trying to avoid him. Until Zeus announces that Persephone is to marry him, with her mother’s blessing, despite all of Zeus’s three former wives having died mysteriously. In a panic, Persephone runs away shortly after the announcement—directly into the arms of Hades. What starts as a way for Hades to get his revenge on Zeus, turns into true love with Persephone, but with seemingly insurmountable obstacles.
My thoughts: This book is a retelling of the story of Hades and Persephone set in modern times with an erotic twist. The narrators have English accents, which somehow added to the element of mythology being retold. It was overall fine. I was bored in parts and enjoyed parts. I really didn’t know much about Greek mythology so I did a short dive into that while listening along. I thought the spice was a bit overdone as plot points. Not a ton of character development even though the author wants you to think there was. I’ll probably continue with the series just because I have the next one ready on Libby, but I may take a break to something different in between.
