I picked this book up in February when I went book shopping for my birthday. I was seeing it being described as a “cozy fantasy” everywhere online and that sounded appealing to me as someone who only started reading fantasy within the last couple of years.

Our main character, Viv (an orc), has spent most of her life making money by going on adventures that usually involve a sword and an enemy she needs to battle. Eager for a change, Viv decides to put down roots and open up the first-ever coffee shop in a city she has chosen carefully. But there are challenges to the new life she is trying to lead including enemies, old and new, and the fact that no one in town actually knows what coffee is.

Well, the description of this book as being a “cozy fantasy” is spot-on. It’s slow-paced but not boring. The found family aspect of it is so charming and you really care about all the characters Viv meets in her new venture. Of course, the coffee shop setting and description of the pastries they sell just made me want to take this book to my nearest coffee shop to read! This was just a relaxing, fun, cozy book that I can tell will become a comfort read that I’ll pick up again in the future. Highly recommend.
