No one is more surprised than me that I thoroughly enjoyed this. Sure, there was a time I gobbled up MF urban fantasy like nobody’s business but because I’ve read so much, it’s hard to pique and maintain my interest these days.

This is a post apocalyptic future, where magic made a bombastic entrance forcing mundane humans to scrape the bottom of the barrel in the supernatural hierarchy. Piper is a hunter, working for a shady mysterious boss and doing his mercenary bidding while she tries to mitigate her guilt from a reckless past. In her efforts to do so, she comes to the attention of demon Ronan who recognizes her as his soulmate, and of course she’s not having one bit of it at all.

The world building is good, the troubles multiply quickly, and the slow reveals are compelling. Piper has yet to be annoying which is of the utmost importance for me as a reader. Though nothing significantly steamy happened, the pull between Ronan and Piper is yummy palpable which will definitely spur me to at least read the next installment. Wish me luck!
