Another 4 Stars!

A thoroughly enjoyable prequel (aka sequel) to Legends & Lattes!

Meet orc Viv as a young mercenary, new to the “business”, trying to make a name for herself as part of the venerated crew Rakam’s Ravens. She's chomping at the bit, eager to put her orc energy into kicking ass and taking names, but on her first fight she’s injured severely and must convalesce in the small town Murk, hoping her party will pick her back up after they accomplish their current bounty hunt.

Consistently a warm cozy read, I grinned to myself watching how Viv’s boredom leads her towards a dusty old bookshop, awakening a love of reading she didn't know she had. Over the ensuing weeks, she makes friends, dates a dwarf, goes on mini adventures, and defeats a big bad, all the while indulging in a variety of bookish wonders and indulging in tasty baked goods!

This had a bit more pep and action to it than its predecessor, but totally capitalized on the love of reading, perusing and buying books, and how such things can bring all sorts of people together. Also, the reader gets to see how gnome bestie Gallina came into Viv’s life as well as how she acquired her deadly sword Blackblood.

I really had a great time in this fantasy world Baldree has created, and I’ll be there again should he give us more adventures of Viv and company!
