After That Night by Karin Slaughter
4.0
My first time to meet both GBI Investigator Will Trent and medical examiner Sara Linton in this 11th instalment of the Will Trent series. A gripping thrill of police procedural and investigative plot that centered on domestic violence, sexual assault and a serial rape crime premise with an alarming execution that revolves around harassment terror and a haunting tale of one’s trauma.
I love the descriptive storytelling and way the author builds the chemistry in between Sara and Will; a layer of love story that sneaking in with a friendship of both with Faith— I really adore their characterization a lot, I wish that I have knew and read the earliest instalments so I can see how their dynamics have been developed thus far. As the crime related closely to Sara’s past it gets quite heart wrenching to follow the progress— I was anxious at times delving into her perspective and the backstory as well to how the crime unfolds later with scenes from the rape victims and the disturbing drama of the aftermath.
It gets quite tense nearly the end with more on the howdunnit rather than a whodunnit narrative. An unhinged revelation at the last chapter; of one’s morality and a psycho madness, also considering on the background of the perpetrators making me go judging and loathing on their intentions even more. Would highly recommend if you’re into a procedural and crime investigation genre (this series can be read as a standalone) but do read it with caution as some parts of it can be triggering much!
