I’ve been trying to read more fantasy lately and so many people online talk about this book and this series so I had to give it a try!
A loose retelling of Beauty and the Beast, this story follows Feyre, a huntress trying to feed her starving family. When the wolf Feyre kills turns out not to be a wolf at all, her life changes forever and she is dragged into the faerie lands. Soon Feyre discovers that things are not quite right as an evil is spreading through the lands, threatening mortal and fae alike.
If you had asked me a year ago if I would ever read a fantasy book involving faeries, I would have laughed and shaken my head. But I think this book has turned me into a fantasy reader! I definitely understand what all the hype is about and why so many readers love this world and the characters. I was completely sucked in and I devoured this 416-page book in 11 days.
The world Maas creates is vivid and immersive and her characters are equally as good. I enjoyed the pacing and was cheering so hard for Feyre as I raced through the last few chapters. The structure of the ending surprised me but I won’t say more than that so I don’t spoil anything. I felt like I’d just gotten off a wild ride when I finished the last chapter. It’s a good thing I already purchased the second book so I can dive right back in!
