The Lion in the Living Room: How House Cats Tamed Us and Took Over the World by Abigail Tucker

5.0

As one of the millions of people out there who love and adore cats, I really enjoyed this book. I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Arden Hammersmith, who read like it was her very own story. You could feel the kitten love.

This isn't necessarily a book I would quickly recommend to many people (I just really like cats and non fiction :-)), but if you are a feline fan, you most certainly should check this out. Some of the information presented I was already familiar with, some of it was shocking, and some of it was really eye opening. Humans and cats have shared such a complicated, long history; I'm still amazed cats didn't become a 'housecat' until the 1950's.

I learned a few things I may be doing wrong with my own furbaby. How I could be unintentionally stressing her out or not considering how we each impact the others' environment. Granted, some people may think it's going a little 'too far. It's just a pet,' but some people's pets are more than just that- they're a reliable, comforting being that, as a house pet, also relies on us for their needs.

I could go on and on with "Oh, did you know," and "guess what else," but you can read it for yourself. :-)
