I absolutely adored this book. "Written in the Stars" was a promising start to a new series last year, and I am so happy that this book lived up to it's predecessor!
At the beginning of the novel, Annie plans to surprise her best friend, Darcy (from "Written in the Stars"), but visiting her. She needs to tell her friend that she will be moving to the UK for a new job opportunity, news that Annie has a complicated relationship with. When she arrives at Darcy's home, Darcy is nowhere to be found! Darcy and her girlfriend have taken an impromptu vacation, and Annie is now stranded without a friend, until Darcy's brother, Brendon shows up to help Annie get the most out of her trip. He runs a dating app development company and is in love with love, and feels the need to convince Annie that romance isn't dead.
The premise of this novel is so sweet (Brendon recreating famous rom com movie moments), however what I really loved was the characters. Brendon is facing difficulties understanding how people have become jaded with love. Annie is one of those jaded people and is facing a promotion at work that she doesn't actually want. She's feeling stuck. The two of them come together and expand each other's understanding of the world. The dating scene isn't perfect, and there is more to life than just work.
The cameos made by the "Written in the Stars" characters were perfect for me. One of my favorite things about this book is that Darcy isn't an amazing friend all the time. Annie is struggling with some big life changes, and Darcy doesn't always react well. She also realizes that Annie has been doing most of the heavy-lifting in their relationship. So much of the time we see characters return in sequels and they are perfectly happy and exactly the same as they were at the end of the previous book and they are just there to give advice and guide their other friends toward love. This instance is different, and I really enjoyed that.
Overall, really fantastic book with some great tropes and fun characters. I highly recommend!
