When We Least Expect It by Stephanie Rowe
fast-paced
- Diverse cast of characters? Yes
4.0
This is a fab new Romantic Comedy series. It's an offshoot of the authors Hart/Stanton family series of cowboy/western/billionaire romances, using secondary characters who deserved to have their story told!
I love a romcom told in dual POV - you can really see what is going on in the other MC's head - it's usually hilarious! Piper I must admit has the worst luck - Wedding planning has been her dream for so long but now everything is going pear-shaped! Her landlord is an unreasonably attractive, grumpy ex-cop and now his mother wants to pay her to date him!
Declan has thrown himself into bar tending and renovating his home since he lost his wife and his career as a cop. He both wants and dreads going back to being a cop but doesn't want to give up on the one thing that connects him to his dad.
Talk about grumpy/sunshine! These two should be oil and water but they are more gasoline and matches! I love Piper's honesty and the way she just can't stomach faking her relationship with Declan. Declan could easily be a layabout playboy but he's just not the kind of man and he is actually a really complicated but compassionate character. Can I just say his mother is a complete hoot - she'd be a brilliant mother in law!
This may be a romcom but it's steeped in all the feels and shows such character growth for both Declan and Piper. Piper's friends are squad goals and they are like a hive mind when they get together!
I'm so excited for book 2 when we get to see more of Piper's reformed bad-boy brother Roman!
