This was remarkably creepy in a way I didn’t expect for a middle grade novel but I absolutely enjoyed it! The cover and synopsis pulled me in and once we got to the haunted slaughterhouse I was hooked.
I adored Evie and felt for her with her parents disappearing after a house fire. I am curious about what exactly happened and although we don’t find out in this book, I’m hoping we do in the next one. I also adored her aunt Des who took her in and showered her with love and support. With Blight Harbor being a haunted town I would have liked to know more of it but there was plenty of paranormal things happening to make me happy.
The haunted slaughterhouse gave me major creeps, as it should, but I couldn’t have imagined the Clackity, Poppe, or the dangerous adventure Evie had to go on in another realm to save her aunt. I’m glad she was able to work though her fears and her companion Bird was the perfect addition.
Overall, an enjoyable and creepy story that I just wanted a bit more from. I’m excited to read the next one when it comes out!
