The Codex by Douglas Preston

3.0

Three stars isn't to say I didn't enjoy the story; airport novel at its best, cliched jungle noir at its semi-worst. I could have done without Sally and her golden waves of hair, sharpshooter skills or no. I could have enjoyed a whole novel about the translation of the Codex itself, but I will seek the real deal from professionals like Wade Davis. If you are looking for an excellent novel along a somewhat similar trail as The Codex, I highly recommend Night of the Jaguar by Michael Gruber. But do yourself the favor of reading the first two novels in his trilogy before that: Tropic of Night and Valley of Bones.
