Always Only You by Chloe Liese

3.5 Stars

My 3rd foray with Liese (I read book 5 first) continues to be an overall success!

It seems that Liese likes to tackle different situations for her characters whether it be issues, disabilities, or certain diagnoses, and here, female MC Frankie is on the spectrum while also dealing with chronic pain in the form of rheumatoid arthritis. She’s the strong stoic type as she handles her job as social media manager for a professional hockey team with a no nonsense heavy hand. Frankie is more than content with who she is and how she deals with her life situations until one day, she’s pushed to really take notice of Ren Bergman, hotshot hockey player who really pings her radar and thus, all bets are off after that.

Once again, this author has created another wonderful male protagonist in Ren who’s a total dreamboat but solidly existing only in fiction. He’s sensitive, caring, protective, a lover of Shakespeare, and despite this dreamboat status, has never been in a serious relationship and still carrying his V card. Yep. Though there are a lot of implausible or very unlikely things written here, Liese still brings an interesting layered romance where her characters are fully fleshed out. However, I can see where several things could bug readers, but for me, I just side eyed it when it came up (ie. Frankie’s obsession with Harry Potter) and let it go into the ether.

Overall, I liked this installment more than [b:Only When It's Us|52949964|Only When It's Us (Bergman Brothers, #1)|Chloe Liese|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1586046488l/52949964._SY75_.jpg|76630157] because though Frankie has her issues and has an annoying martyr moment that throws a wrench in her and Ren’s relationship, she barely frustrated me when compared to Willa. Admittedly, this is quirky. Maybe too much so. I do see a pattern to Liese’s stories so far and it could only apply to just this series, but the first 85% is unresolved sexual tension with plenty of foreplay that finally leads to the main event (which is very nicely smexy) but devolves into an absolute indulgent (dare I say a bit cheesy) love extravaganza.

Hey, I’ve made it this far, and I appreciate the nuanced thoughtful struggles I’ve encountered. Rest assured, I want to and will see the rest of the Bergman siblings get their happy ever after!
