OMG this fic was ridiculous! And when I say ridiculous I don't just mean silly/funny - tho it was that. It was also ridiculously emotional and angsty and swoony. So yes. Ridiculously ridiculous. Have I made myself clear?
Stiles works in a coffee shop and meets customer Derek and he is crushing hard. Really hard. He makes it his mission to win over this rude, taciturn, admittedly scary and intimidating, hottie. Though at times Stiles' voice was a bit over the top, his endless ramblings endless, I thought it was a good characterization - very witty, topical and relatable. Be forewarned that Derek is ultra, mega broody here; minimal conversations skills were showcased.
Despite the extreme ends of the spectrum regarding these two, I could not put this down. I read it straight through and I loved it.

To me this was pure freaking genius.
What starts out as a hilarious "the joke's on us" scenario where Stiles and Derek find themselves in one ridiculous dangerous situation after the other, evolves into something so much more. And though this was basically a slow burn, the reward was so sweet and awesome and HOT. I really have no complaints.
In and among the sharp humor there was some markedly pointed angst. Of course Derek's revolves around his guilt and self loathing. As always, he's afraid to let people in which ultimately encompasses actually having feelings. He's so carefully controlled, so perfectly aloof at holding everyone at arm's length. He's all about self flagellation and is adept at pushing Stiles away. Despite Stiles trying to get under Derek's skin constantly, he too, often hides behind his snark. Here, his loneliness was particularly painful in his awarenesss that he might not ever measure up enough to be anyone's someone, let alone unattainable Derek's.
This was a fantastic exploration of the pathos and ethos of these two. It was like taking a philosophy class studying all the ways we know Sterek is inevitable. So yes, this was introspective and deep. You've got both POV's, which is an extra bonus because we all love getting into Derek's head. And don't get me started on the absolute brilliance that was Stiles's voice. I would have to say for me, it ranks probably in the top 2 I've read, if not the best.
Gawd this was so funny and smart - complete with romance, feels, and swoony parts. I loved it! I seriously wanted to quote the entire fic!
"Derek follows closely behind, one hand reaching out towards Stiles as if magnetized. As if they really are drawn to each other by mysterious forces out of their control. Derek doesn't mind it now, if he ever really did. He'd choose to reach for Stiles anyway."
