Wow wow wow this book was even better than the first!
I am left with a scramble of thoughts and feelings, so to organise myself I'll do what I do best: make a list.
• I always found Calla relatable with her high-sensitivity empathic abilities which make her regulate other's emotions, often without even trying, and make her sick when she absorbs too much 'feelings' from everyone else (unfortunately, mine is not a result of super cool interdimensional magical abilities) • I was surprised by how relatable I found Cassia in this book! I somehow came to love our main girl twice as much as before (who knew that was possible?) and I could relate to so much of what she did and thought and felt and said :') ILY CASSIA LET'S BE BESTIES!! PLEASE!!! • I will always always ALWAYS love the platonic soulmates bond between Cassia and Lucas. It's so important to value and represent how friendships can be just as deep and fulfilling as romantic relationships. • I have complicated feelings for Rosheen. I can hardly imagine how hard it must be to carry the burden of her power, knowledge and status BUT THE WAY SHE TREATS LOCHLAN HAS MY HEART ACHING <\3 My man deserved better parents :( *tries and fails not to hate Rosheen* • The emotions in this book are written so well I could FEEL them. Especially the grief! Gosh, the grief in this book wrecked me. • Many parts of this book were like a hug. The found family, the attention given to food, the light banter providing relief from the action and suspense, the sensory details, the wholesome Vineasian village... it all made me feel warm and mushy inside <3 • That surprise romance trope???? I want to share my excitement with everyone because it's one of my fave tropes ever (especially in fantasy novels), but I don't want to ruin the wonderful surprise... IYKYK ;) • And lastly, the best best BEST part of this book: Lochlan. Just him. No further explanation needed. If you haven't met my snarky, tortured, morally grey immortal lover YOU ARE MISSING OUT! BIG TIME!
I love this book. I love this series. I love the world-building. I love the plot. I love most of these characters (and love to hate the others). I LOVE YOU SHAMEEZ! <3
Once again Na Yoonhee has changed my life with an extraordinary emotion-rich story that captures human nature and life’s tragedies so well. She writes with such realism that even through the most upsetting of scenes you can’t help but be in awe and understanding. I also feel like her artstyle has somehow improved?! I did not think this was even possible, I mean Na Yoonhee has ALWAYS been among the greatest of artists and webtoon creators I’ve ever encountered! I want to get down on my knees in front of this author and thank her for not only continuing to exist but continuing to SHARE the art of her existence with us. Na Yoonhee, you are incredible. There are not enough words in any language for me to fully express how incredible you truly are. I already can’t wait for the next time you completely OBLITERATE my heart with another story. 😭❤️🩹
