Cute but short. I wish there was an epilogue to see what life is like after the mission.

Ouch, not sure why I finished this. Very basic, high school writing, everything spelled out and no subtlety or surprises. Somewhat painful read. Characters had no real connection beyond fated mates.

I do not reward weakness. I do not like the pathetic Vhalla and I want her to power through, train, and overcome. I am sad about Larel and iffy about Eletia. I am concerned about Aldrick but know he cannot be harmed by wind, like Vhalla can’t be harmed by fire (only his fire?). I’m hopeful…

I enjoyed this but it went so fast. I feel like not much happened. I’m curious to keep reading. It seems somewhat simplistic writing except for the character relationships which are complex and I enjoy.

I enjoyed this! But I do like Dade’s works. Genuine connections, difficult but believable, and likeable characters kept me reading.

Okay, nothing special. Missing the witty back and forth I normally love but I did like their card playing scenes.

I LOVED this book. An emotional rollercoaster with so many poignant scenes, quotable lines, relatable feelings, and joy- I was surprised by how much positivity in what sounds like a depressing book (terminal illness, family with addiction and other issues, an abandoned baby). I thought of several people who I wanted to recommend this book due to different scenes or perspectives that I thought they would enjoy or relate to or benefit from. I benefited from this book. I have liked other Abby Jimenez books (like a lot- I read one and needed more) but wow this has to be my new favorite of hers! Probably my favorite book of the year (definitely so far, but confident it’ll stay number one for 2024). Read this!!

I liked this but I really wish there was more closure- I wanted a confrontation with her parents or at least for them to realize their cruelty and I wanted more follow up with the former duke and his sister (and the executor of the supposed will). I wanted some idea of what their relationship will be like (they had none previously beyond friends with benefits) and what Portia will do for work or a visa… this ended very abruptly. I was shocked when I turned the page and it was just done.
