I kept waiting for the big fight, for her to finally defeat Zeus. The writing was beautiful, but the plot was disappointing.

Jennifer Saint is doing phenomenal work with these feminist retellings of Ancient Greek myths. Hera is typically one of my least favorite mythical characters, but I loved her here. I like the back story, why she punished the victims, her attempts to thwart Zeus, and where she ends up. While her actions aren't admirable at all, Saint gives them an interesting perspective. I really enjoyed listening to this story. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a free audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

It was enjoyable, especially in the beginning. However, Hera and her story started to feel flat from the middle to the end. Hera herself is definitely a gray character where you can sympathize with her emotions and rationality but then dislike some of her actions. I appreciate the depth there. I just think something was missing in the story, but maybe it was supposed to be hopeful and open ended in a sense.

It's pretty good. Not as engaging as the other books in this universe. I'd like to see more dimension other than an angry female.

This reads like a 4th grade text book on Greek mythology.

I didn’t love this one as much as I expected I would! I’m not quite sure how to explain it but even though a lot happened, it didn’t quite feel like there was plot moving the story along. And maybe that’s just what happens with a book about the entire story of a Goddess - that’s a millennium of experiences to pack into less than 400 pages.

HOWEVER, I did really really love the final section of this book, and the way it described the gods’ decision to leave Olympus and integrate with humanity. Such a lovely metaphor for how mankind’s relationship has changed with the Greek gods.

I do wish Hera hadn’t finished her story as delulu as she did. Her character was hard to root for — not because she didn’t deserve revenge — but because she failed everytime and after awhile I just really wanted her to move on. 😅
