Getting through the first 100 pages is a hard slog. They're boring with little action and too much descriptive filler. The second 100 pages are a bit more interesting and the main character, Bilbo, starts developing some fortitude. I only really got interested during the last 80 pages when the characters reached their destination. It just didn't live up to its cultural status as an iconic tale of adventure.

The book is broken into two parts, and they are vastly different from each other. The first part goes very quickly - almost too fast! The second part drags a bit and didn't really get exciting until the last one hundred pages of the book. But oh man, I think those may have been the best pages of all! Rebecca Yarros left us on a massive cliffhanger, so I imagine that the next book will be really good.
