The love triangle should have included different characters. I will die on that hill. And the declarations of love were so repetitive I found myself convinced I had accidentally rewound the audio.
All in all I’m glad to be done with this series but so sad that I will never encounter a living Will or James Herondale again.

I am only taking off the half star because the third act’s inciting incident felt a bit contrived, and I didn’t really get why it played out the way it did? Other than that, no notes.

From the obvious self-insert of the author as the FMC to the completely undeveloped MMC I did not connect with these characters on any level. The slow build was far too slow and when *the sex* finally happened it was more wish fulfillment than actual realistic sex. I was so uncomfortable with the self-insert that I could not enjoy this relationship at all.
So much of this book is needless drama created by the main characters’ lack of boundaries with the people in their lives. The main characters from SLD come back in a way that is so far from meaningful other than for our MMC and FMC to feel guilty for keeping weird not-secrets from her.
I just didn’t care what happened to these characters at all, which was disappointing after having enjoyed Spanish Love Deception so much.
