Kill for Me, Kill for You by Steve Cavanagh

What did I just read? A plot like so twisted and wild that I had stop and re-read what just happened as the big finale. What I thought was going to happen didn’t. Everything shifted and I am blown away completely by this book.

Think Strangers on a Train - two complete strangers meet and both have someone they’d like to kill but can’t because they would be the obvious suspect. So obviously they agree to murder for each other.

Except this one is WAY more than just that - I don’t even know how to review it except that it shows that monsters can be anywhere and everywhere and can be created at any time.

The Break-Up Pact by Emma Lord

It took me longer to read this than I would have liked but it was more due to me and my busy life than the book and its quality.

This was a really great read featuring fake dating and friends to lovers. Lots of depth around the mutual loss the two main characters have suffered and themes of living for others and putting ourselves on hold. Really enjoyed the interaction between not only the two MCs but also the development around the side characters that made the story so much richer.

Very much a Mr. and Mrs. Smith vibe but with very little character development and a crazy far fetched story line. The  inner monologue of Jonathan was over the top and it felt like Eva was always just down for whatever and chipper.

No matter what it was entertaining and very action packed which I enjoy. Not her best IMO but not a total plonker.

This one gives Good Son in so many ways. The evil child trope is not always done well but she nails it here and I was guessing until the end!
Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera

Holy shit. If this is Tintera’s debut - I cannot wait to see what else she writes.

Imagine being the subject of a cold case murder podcast where everyone is convinced you killed your best friend. And you can’t say you didn’t because you have no memory of the night. Welcome to Listen for the Lie.

I read this one in two sits - last night and tonight. It was engrossing, it was fast paced, I couldn’t stop. Grandma Beverly is the best character ever and tbh - I loved Lucy and her dark humor, even when it was mistimed. I laughed at the things she said multiple times.

And the ending? Damn. Wasn’t expecting it but wasn’t surprised either.

Don’t skip this one.

Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez

Ok so let’s talk for a second about how Abby Jimenez has the incredible ability to write characters that are deep, layered and flawed and make me care about them so much. She is truly incredible when it comes to building out storylines that showcase the real trauma and tragedy in life. And meeting people where they are rather than creating some fictional couple that is sunshine and roses from the jump.

I won’t give too much away since this was an arc but I can say that I would totally marry Justin. Maddy is the ultimate BFF. Amber gives me a little PTSD myself. And Emma? Well, she’s one of the most real and relatable characters I’ve read. Ever.

Read it when it comes out. For real. Or you will be the asshole.
A Novel Love Story by Ashley Poston

Gahhhh I really loved this. Ashley Poston has a way of adding elements of magical realism into all of her romances and they have all drawn me in and kept me captivated. This one was extra unique and I want to hug it.

Imagine a broken romance lover getting lost on her way to her book club’s cabin (where she’d be alone) and winding up in the small town that inspired her favorite romance authors series. And having the Wizard of Oz moment when she realized that all her favorite characters were there and she was living in the books.

This one was just next level for me and I can’t wait to get a hard copy of my own to share with my book club.

This was a decent mystery/thriller but it didn’t keep my attention until I was halfway through it. After that though, I finished it in one 150 page read.

I think the safest thing to say about this one is that no one was ever really innocent in the town of Cutter’s Pass.

So I enjoyed this book overall - back in the world of DI Ffion Morgan. This time set around a reality series called Exposure being filmed at “Dragon Mountain” with their own Ceri as one of the stars.

It felt a little more laborious than book one in the series, even tho we got more depth around other characters in the book. Kept me invested but not enough to plow through it quickly like I do with many thrillers. Pacing felt a little off on this one.

Love Clare Mackintosh and this thriller/police procedural was great…once it really got started. It was slow to get into and there were a whole lot of characters to keep track of for the whole book. Once I was at least 50-75 pages in, I finally got more bought in but Ffion was hard to like for awhile. Overall though, it was good and I’m looking forward to her next installment of this series.
