#CrimeTime by Jeneva Rose
4.0
Hilarious satirical caper born from real events. Listened to this on the way home from Thanksgiving with the whole family and we were all captivated by the wild tale of Nadiya, a crime novelist, and her newly discovered half brother Chase, influencer wanna be.
Told with a whole cast of voice actors, complete with sound effects - like dog farts - this book was over the top and delightful in the absolute best way. I hope to hear more #crimetime as Jeneva continues to flex her literary muscles.

The Berry Pickers by Amanda Peters
3.5
What a truly sad story - driven by two main characters, Joe and Norma. A story about a Canadian indigenous family and their history of tragedy, beginning when their youngest daughter Ruthie is kidnapped during a summer in Maine while the family worked picking berries.
A truly epic tale of lost family, found family and the way people break in their sadness and learn to live and love again.

The Fury by Alex Michaelides
4.0
I have an up and down relationship with Michelades. The silent patient - his triumph, was just ok in my book. The Maidens was worse to me as I hated everyone in the book. However, the Fury was a welcome surprise! Told in multiple acts, with each revealing more and more about our cast of characters.
Set on a private Greek island with Lana Farrar, a retired movie star and those that circulate in her orbit…everyone wanting a piece of her in some way. How far will those friends or enemies go to get what they want? How will it end?
Even I was surprised. This is my favorite book of Michelades thus far.

The Engagement Party by Darby Kane
3.75
A twisty locked room thriller to finish out my goal of 100 books in 2023! College friends gather on a private island to celebrate their friend’s recent engagement and the ghosts of the past and demons who have been stalking them show up in spades as they fight for their lives and the truth.
All the Dangerous Things by Stacy Willingham
5.0
Willingham is just a master at leading you down a path that is winding and twisted, with numerous false possible suspects before she just slams you in the face with the truth. Unreliable narrator, gaslighting, and every mothers worst nightmare - a missing baby.
Happily Never After by Lynn Painter

What a perfect romcom - that starts off in the most bizarre way. With our leading man objecting at the wedding of our leading lady to another man! The hilarity ensues from there and I couldn’t have been more drawn into Sophie and Max’s story.
How To Solve Your Own Murder by Kristen Perrin
4.0
Loved this fun book! It gave me Agatha Christie vibes with a cozy mystery type of energy.
Told in two time periods and perspectives - modern day Annie and 1960s Great Aunt Frances, both with such unique voices but similar personalities. They both like to get to the bottom of mysteries.
Aunt Frances wanted to know who killed her best friend in 1966 - and kept tabs on everyone as possible suspects, all whilst holding on to her superstitions about a fortune she received at a carnival when she was 17 that foretold her murder.
Annie received a missive to attend a meeting with the mysterious Great Aunt Frances and her counsel to discuss the changing of her will - only to discover her dead. Her fortune come true.
She finds herself immersed in an eccentric small town where everybody knows everyone, they’re all hiding something and she has no idea who to trust. Will she uncover the truth about her enigmatic great aunt or be doomed to the same fate?

The Gentleman's Gambit by Evie Dunmore

Ahhh this series is over and I feel sad knowing their stories have all been told. 😞
However, I liked Catriona’s story and her transformation much more than Hattie’s and felt that Dunmore did us a service with the epilogue.
Plus the steam factor was piping hot and served up often - even if it didn’t start until more than halfway through the book.
These ladies were badass and were all inspired by real people and events. Remember to climb upon the shoulders of those who came before you and carry on the good fight.

Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros

Speechless doesn’t cover it. 🐉
I knew after I caught the Basgiath bug this summer that Iron Flame by @rebeccayarros was going to be my most anticipated read of the fall.
I also knew I’d lose sleep when it came out because I wouldn’t be able to stop reading. In fact, in addition to pre-ordering the special edition, I also downloaded a digital copy for my kindle so I wouldn’t disturb the husband whilst reading way past my bedtime.
I didn’t realize that I would be emotionally wrecked after finishing it and left with a longing for the rest of the series so deep that I’m considering heading to Colorado to camp out on Yarros’s lawn, offer to babysit her kids, do her laundry or whatever the fuck else she needs in order to get the rest of the books in my needy greedy little hands.
That cliffhanger folks…gods be damned, just stay in your saddle and hold on.
Rebecca Yarros - please take all the stars ✨ in the sky, on @goodreads, @the.storygraph and on my varsity letter jacket and feel free to take me up on my Colorado sojourn offer…I’m ready to find out what happens next.
I’m gonna go take a cold shower now and contemplate learning how to throw daggers. I’m gonna need to do something until the next book comes out…

Good Girls Don't Die by Christina Henry

I don’t think I’ve ever read a book quite like this before - three main parts, each with a different woman as the focal point, each dropped into a reality that isn’t hers. Each must fight for her life in order to survive.
Truth be told - I loved this book, until the very end. So, I won’t spoil it but the final part felt very overwrought and the villain felt like a caricature of a real person. However - the overall vibe and sentiment of this book were chefs 💋
