I've been binge reading the Lupin books and I've got absolutely hooked on each one, despite them not being the usual genre of books I read. While I appreciated that Lupin was a more prominent character in this than in “The Hollow Needle”, I was not a fan of the ending.
Lupin losing his will to live was sudden, and though understandable, the fact that he enrolled in the war was a biiiiiit too much for me
. Nevertheless, a thrilling and enjoyable read.

Arsene Lupin is far from a serious read, but it's fun, light, entertaining and very mustache-twirly with a hint of quaint Victorian and parody. What's not to enjoy?

Excellent story to listen to while getting ready to go to sleep, the last hour or so before bedtime. Not too boring, but not too exciting, either, after the first half or so. I still find the character of Lupin to be rather annoyingly arrogant, as written by M. Leblanc. It really needed Omar Sy’s touch to give the character a sense of justification, if that makes sense?

J'écoute la version de ce livre en français lu par Bidou sur #LibriVox, ici: https://librivox.org/813-by-maurice-l... Il faut noter que la #torture est moins efficace que regardant le langage corporel...

Arsenne Lupin proved 100 years ago that torture is not needed for information gathering: by watching his victim's body language (and this, well before it happened in an episode of Criminal Minds...).

c'est honteux comment les femmes etaitent form'ees (et vetues en corsette) pour etre faibles...

Good that the 'baddie' is the main character for a change, France's most notorious Gentleman Thief - Arsene Lupin, sends a letter asking the snobby rich to hand over the goods, then when they don't he sends another telling them what he is going to steal and when, then still manages to do it. Wonderful romp, look forward to reading more Lupin adventures.
